New tools offer unprecedented efficiency for learning.

The construction of Knox Virtual has three primary elements: a video-based lecture series, a Moodle-based learning management system, and a web-driven teleconferencing system. These three elements, combined together, have produced a virtual classroom infrastructure. Within the Knox virtual classroom, students will be able to view professionally edited course lectures via video downloads on a weekly schedule, participate in online student-to-student forums designed to foster a learning community through intentional built-in activities, take quizzes and examinations, and speak live with the professor and course facilitators through strategically planned web-teleconferences. We will monitor a student’s progress to ensure that no one gets behind. Students will follow the same semester schedule as our residential students.

The purpose of this combination of technology is to replicate the classroom experience of peer/instructor interaction. Likewise, the design also intentionally employs an adult-based learning pedagogy that will provide students with an interactive learning environment.
